CALLIGRAPHY WORKSHOP – THE BLACKLINE BOTTEGA
Held at The Grove Byron Bay
Two of our angels Tegan and Lulu got to spend a sunny Saturday learning a little bit about the world of calligraphy with the gorgeous Lauren Hung from The Black Line Bottega. We have been working with Lauren for a little while now, she kindly sent us a print ages ago and when we needed someone to create some words for us for our book launch, and then our boutique, she was the perfect fit!
The day started with some beautiful food and Lauren explaining the history of calligraphy and her own story, as well as the tools needed. The girls got to work through a sheet, kind of like you did when learning handwriting at school, learning the alphabet and practicing letters over and over until they got to write some things of their own!
Lauren’s tips:
- Go with your own style – trying to mimic others just doesn’t work – just go with your own handwriting and enhance it
- When dipping into the ink, make sure you don’t create a “bubble” on the brush, just use a small amount of ink
- Pressing firmer creates a thicker line, and lightly creates a thinner line
- Experiment with pressure as you go to create different looks
